Heritage Family Credit Union – Brandon, VT

A historic, abandon brick building was restored. New life was given to a structure that had sat idle for years. Our team of seasoned professionals, from demolition and site all the way to installing the custom finishes within, worked to restore and upgrade a build-ing so that it not only maintained its historic value to the community, but also served a new purpose. The old Brandon Fire House was purchased by Heritage Family Credit Union in 2008 and Naylor & Breen was hired to lead the charge to bring a new banking branch to this small Vermont town. The architectural design was sympathetic to the needs of the client and its program, but also held all team members to strict adherence to historic details, restoration, and replication. The exterior was upgraded with new insulated, wood windows that were in keeping with the style of the old ones that had not lasted over time. As the brick exterior withstood harsh weather and a long life, it simply needed some cleaning and accent paint to replicate what was there many years ago. The slate roof over the main building was left intact with a new rubber membrane with rigid insulation was installed over utility spaces to the north. Inside, the building was completely gutted, to allow for an energy efficient building envelope. A new wood stud wall was built around the entire interior perimeter to allow for spray foam as well as rigid sheet insulation. A new electrical and mechanical system was also installed, in an effort to not only create a comfortable working environment for the staff, butt to create long term energy savings. New ceiling, wall, and floor finishes created the pallet for the main attraction in the custom millwork crafted by Naylor & Breen's own Hawk Hill Mill-work. A new teller line was fabricated off site and assembled in place, complete with solid cherry details and local marble tops. A true transformation that saved a dying building and added something more to the community.
