Mac's Convenience Store – East Middlebury, VT
This project was a tear down/new build after a fire destroyed the old country store. It presented very challenging site conditions and was constructed under a tight timeframe; start to finish in less than 60 days. The owners collaborated with Naylor & Breen's draftsmen on the design to keep it cost-effective. Site challenges start with soil contamination, there was leakage from the prior petroleum tanks creating soil contamination. Naylor & Breen coordinated with the engineers to dispose of the contaminated soil. This site required "dewatering" prior to pouring footings. Installation of the footings required continuous pumping of water up and out into storage tanks while the footings were poured and special footings were designed for this type of site condition. There were very strenuous safety guidelines in effect for this site. It's located at the very busy intersection of Routes 116 & 125. The crews often times had to be in the roadway to perform work and be aware of moving traffic from all directions. Naylor & Breen also coordinated with all the owners' subs including the installation refrigeration units and new petroleum tanks.
